CHALLENGE: Walk by Faith, not by sight.
A. FAITH IS STRONGER THAN THE BROKEN BRANCHES OF THE FAMILY TREE
1. Faith is Stronger Than the Branch of Dysfunction
Genesis 11:27-30 – This is the account of Terah’s family line. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot. 28 While his father Terah was still alive, Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, in the land of his birth..
2. Faith Works in the Root of Normal
B. FAITH MOVES FORWARD WITHOUT ALL THE ANSWERS (vv1-4)
V1 – The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you;
I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.[a]
3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”[b]
4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran.
· Faith Moves Us Past Our Comforts
· Moves Us Past What’s Certain
2 Corinthians 5:7 – For we live by faith, not by sight.
C. FAITH LIVES BY GOD’S PROMISES
Vv2-3 – “I will make you into a great nation,and I will bless you;I will make your name great,and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you,and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
· Promises Are Based in God’s Plan
Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans.
John 3:16 – For God so loved.
1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins.
· Promises Give Us Tremendous Confidence
D. FAITH IS AN ACTION
VV5-6 – He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there..
