CHALLENGE: Get Back to God

A.HEAR GOD’S TELLING QUESTIONS

1. WHERE?

· Shows a Lack of Remorse
· Shows a Lack of Honesty
· Shows a Lack of Love

“Am I my brother’s keeper”? YES CAIN – actually you are! You’re the big brother and yes, big brothers protect the younger ones from harm. Not Cain. He’s bearing no responsibility for any of it.

2.WHAT Did You Do?

V10 – The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.

Revelation 6:9-10 – When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. 10 They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?”

Psalm 32:3-5 – When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. 4 For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. 5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin.

1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins.

B.REPURCUSSIONS OF UNREPENTANCE

Vv11-12 – Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.”

· Repercussion 1 – Resistance to Your Efforts
· Repurcussion #2 – Loss of Community
· Repurcussion #3 – Restlessness

C.THE RECKONING

Vv13-14 – Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is more than I can bear. 14 Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me.”

1.Rootless
2.Remembered

But even in James 2 – it’s Rahab the Prostitute. It’s great that we can be redeemed. But what do you want to be known for? Do you want to be known as a loving dad? Then be that. Do you want to be a servant? Be that! You want to be remembered as a grump or a nice person? Be that.

Genesis 4:15-17 – But the Lord said to him, “Not so[e]; anyone who kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over.” Then the Lord put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him. 16 So Cain went out from the Lord’s presence and lived in the land of Nod,[f] east of Eden..

Cain would forever chase what he already had! So stay at home and do what God wants you to do.

Routines

Pastor Bill McMinn and Eric Barfell discuss the topic of routines. They feel that they do better when they are in a routine.

DEFINITION: a regular course of procedure – habitual or mechanical performance of an established procedure

They look at scriptures that show examples of routines.

Luke 4:16 – He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read,

Luke 5:16 – But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.

Daniel 6:10 – Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.

Talking Finances

Talking Finances

? What are the best things you’ve learned about finances?

** Pay Attention

Proverbs 23:23 – Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds; 24 for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations. 25 When the hay is removed and new growth appears and the grass from the hills is gathered in, 26 the lambs will provide you with clothing, and the goats with the price of a field. 27 You will have plenty of goats’ milk to feed your family and to nourish your female servants.

This is like stepping on the scale every day. I monitor my bank accounts every day. You have to know what’s going on. The more aware I am, the less likely I am to spend it.

Budgets are good.

Count the cost

Know what’s going on – both the husband and the wife should know what the obligations are.

*** Spend Less

*** Save

Proverbs 13:11 – Dishonest money dwindles away, but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow.

*** Avoid Debt

Proverbs 22:7 – The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.

*** Side Hustle
*** Communicate
*** Count the Cost
*** Do Stuff Yourself
*** Trust in God

Seek first his kingdom and his righteous.

Your Choices

READ: Genesis 4:5

CHALLENGE: Make Good Choices

A. REVIEW YOUR THINKING

Vv5-6 – but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast?

1. Calm Yourself Down

· Don’t Fuel Your Anger

James 1:19-20 – My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20 because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.

· Don’t Allow Your Thinking to Sour

· Ask Why You Are Angry

B. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY and DO RIGHT.

V7 – If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door;.

1. Do Right

a. Right is a Choice

Hebrews 5:13-14 – Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

b. Choices Bring Consequences

(1). Acceptance

1 Peter 3:7 – Husbands,.

(2.) Dominated by Darkness

Ephesians 4:26 – “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold.
