How Great Thou Art – A Song of the Ages!

Song of the Day

“How Great Thou Art”, arrangement by Paul Baloche

Devotional thought

All the nations, whom you created, will come and worship you, O Lord. They will honor your name. For you are great and do amazing things. You alone are God.

Psalm 86:9–10 (NET 2nd ed.)

We acknowledge God as the Creator of the universe! His Name is to be praised at all times for all the amazing deeds He has done – and is doing. Our soul should be singing and declaring our God’s praises alongside all the nations of the earth!

The Psalms are a great place to begin if we are having difficulty knowing how to praise the Lord. Just like this little passage in Psalm 86, there are many Psalms that help us put language to what our soul knows to be true of God. Many times we just don’t know how to express it, so going to the Word of God is a great place to inform our praises!

As the text says, many will come from all nations to worship and honor the Name of God! May it be so for everyone reading these words right now! Offer the Lord your declarations of praise!

Making the personal connection

I love this old hymn and how it invites our soul to sing and give expression to the worship we sense and have in our heart for the Lord Jesus Christ! Think of the creation, the love, the salvation, the joy, the life, and so much more we have in Christ and tell me that your soul doesn’t want to shout out loudly its praises to the Lord!

Our God is great and has done amazing deeds, not only for all of history past, but He is doing those amazing deeds for us in the present! How great is our God and worthy of our praises, there is none like Him!

You might already know Him as your personal Savior, which means that you should have a testimony of God’s goodness and mercy manifesting itself in your own life! Use this experience to join your heart into the praises of the entire world as we all declare with all of our soul the Greatness of our God.

Questions for Reflection

  • How often do you reflect upon God’s greatness in your life?
  • Do you spend much time getting into the Word of God and allowing it to inform your praises?
  • Do you shout and sing from your soul when you consider the sacrifice He made to save your soul?

Prayer

Father God, my great God and King, I worship You now. I confess that You are great and worthy of my praises. I pray that You will, by the Holy Spirit’s power, help me to express my praises to You at all times. I ask for the courage to shout and sing and praise Your name for all that You have done in my life and the lives of those I love. In Jesus’ name, amen.
