Faith is Key!

“Now to him who by the power that is working within us is able to do far beyond all that we ask or think,” (Ephesians 3:20)

Do we believe this verse? I know it is so difficult to understand, especially when we are facing very difficult circumstances, but the Bible reminds us so often that we MUST believe that God is able before we see His activity in our lives.

Hebrews 11:1 & 6 are very critical verses in describing faith and its importance to us.

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see. (Hebrews 11:1)

Now without faith it is impossible to please him, for the one who approaches God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)

We must believe that God exists if we are approaching Him for answers to our prayers. I mean, I think that goes without saying right?

But, check out what verse 1 said, “being sure of what we hope for”!! As we pray and wait on God our job is to believe that He hears our prayers, that He is able to accomplish all that we ask of Him, and to trust that whatever we ask in His name is ours – “being convinced of what we do not see”!

“And whatever you ask in prayer, if you believe, you will receive.” (Matthew 21:22)

Being Honest with God about Our Faith

Many times we hide our true feelings from God, as if He doesn’t know them. We try to “muster up” the faith to cry out to Him for our needs, getting louder when things “really” matter, and pray more when things get hard and we are desperate to see God at work.

Mark 9:24 is an excellent example of true faith expressed by a father of a demon possessed boy who acknowledged to Jesus that he did believe but then added an honest admission of the unbelief that had too! I love that vulnerability and I desire to use it as a model for my own prayer life.

If we are honest, many of us should be saying the same thing this father said to Jesus – “help my unbelief”! We tend to look at difficulties, and even opportunities, from a negative and despondent perspective instead of being confident in the God who is working miracles every day. We are stuck on our “practical” expectations, when instead we should be believing and expecting God to do far above all we could ever think or even imagine, right?

This father confessed that he needed help believing and just a few moments later watched the God of the universe cast out the demon that had been plaguing his son. And then he heard Jesus tell His disciples that this only happens through prayer! What is it that we could be seeing just moments after we pray to God asking for Him to move?

Vulnerable honesty before God positions us to see the impossible accomplished in our lives!

Lift your hands to believe again. Surrender the results to God and trust Him for the impossible. Open your eyes, dream big, ask for the impossible, pour out your heart before your Refuge and Strength, and ask the Lord to accomplish what at this point is only a hope and prayer for you!

The direct encouragement of Jesus to us is this – “pray, believing, and you will receive that which you are asking for”! Are we going to pray then? Are we going to be vulnerably honest before the Lord about our lack of faith?

Are we going to set aside our “practical” expectations of the situations we are facing and allow God to move in ways that go far beyond the “practical” to the unimaginable?

Let faith arise in your heart and pray big prayers believing that the things you pray for are being heard by the greatest force in all the universe – God almighty! Do you believe that?

Therefore let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and find grace whenever we need help. (Hebrews 4:16)

Prayer

God almighty, I praise You for being the God of impossible, and I want to believe You are able to accomplish amazing things in my life and those I love! Please increase my faith Lord, and help my unbelief as I watch you work in my life. Please open my eyes to the possibilities that are available to me as Your child. In Jesus’ name, amen.
