The Name that Communicates Hope

Song of the Day

“Hope Has A Name” by River Valley Worship

Devotional thought

Our Song of the Day, Hope Has a Name, does such a great job of reminding us that we have hope in this world because we have a Savior that is victorious! I know it is tempting to look around our world today and find ourselves feeling hopeless, but as long as the Name of Jesus is available for us to hold on to we are NOT hopeless!

I think of the words of Christ in John 16:33 where He tells us that we will have troubles in this world, but that we should be of good cheer because He overcame the world! We have victory over the trials and distresses that seem to plague us because our Savior delivered us from these things by His Name.

“Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!…” (Romans 7:25 partial)

See, our confidence and hope is not in ourselves. We truly are hopeless to overcome life’s troubles on our own strength, but when our confidence is in the faithful God of the universe then we truly will be full of hope (see 1 John 5:4-5). I know that I am always in need of this reminder, that my confidence must remain in the source of my strength – Jesus Christ!

I appreciate the fact that today’s song communicates a future hope to us as well! There will be a day when our hope will be complete in glory! No more pain, death, mourning, sorrow, but only an eternity of peace and joy in the presence of our Savior (see Revelation 21:3-4). What a wonderful promise to behold and look forward to.

“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure...” (Hebrews 6:19 partial)

I’m not sure what you are facing today, but I pray that you will face it with hope in your heart knowing that our God has promised to be with you through it all! I pray that you will be filled with all hope and peace, that you will be an overcomer, and that the temptation to live hopelessly would be dissolved as you reflect upon the Name that brings us all hope in this world which is Jesus Christ!

Take a minute and call upon that Name even now. Seek Him and the hope that He offers you. I promise that after just a few minutes of fixing your eyes upon Jesus Christ the cares of this world will begin to vanish and hope will begin to be restored.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)

Prayer

Lord God, praise You for being the source of my hope! I know I am not alone and that I can be an overcomer in this world, but it’s only to the level that I trust in You. So, please help me to stay focused and faithful to You, Jesus. God, grant me the faith I need to reject the temptation to live hopelessly and to live my life with an abundance of hope. In Jesus’ name, amen.
