Devotional thought
I love this song and how it reminds us of the power found in the name of Jesus! There is so much power in that Name – Jesus Christ. The power to overcome our fear, death, chaos, sin, etc. That is all found in the Name of Christ Jesus.
Jesus came as the light of the world. He came to destroy the power of the darkness and to free those who are held in slavery to fear. There is no darkness in Him at all, it is only light.
God is able to keep in perfect peace those who trust in His name, that is why I love the 1st verse of this song so much. It is a prayer for the Lord to replace the rage in us with the peace that comes along with the proclamation of His Name!
I am not sure what sort of storm you have in your spirit right now, but did you know that if you choose right now to trust in the Name of Jesus He will still that storm for you? The discipline of calling to the Lord in our moments of trial and darkness is what will help us overcome in this life! No darkness can ever overcome the light! He drives out the darkness as long as we stay near the light of His glorious face.
The powers of darkness are constantly attempting to sway us and influence us to not trust in God. There is a spiritual battle at work even now, but when I read texts like Mark 5 or Acts 19:15 I am reminded that these powers of darkness know for sure who they are subject to – Jesus Christ! They tremble at the sound of His Name according to James 2:19! You don’t have to try and convince the powers of darkness of who the boss is, all we must do is speak that Name and they flee! There is power in the Name above every other name, so let’s use it and believe in that Name to help us overcome all fear and darkness in our lives.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I do trust You and believe that Your Name is all-powerful and worthy of all my praise! I trust You to drive out all of the darkness in my life. I seek Your Name right now to restore peace in my spirit and to revive me to walk in Your light! In Jesus’ Name, amen!
