Lives of Faith bring Glory to God!

Song of the Day

Glory to God Forever” by Steve Fee

Devotional thought

He did not waver in unbelief about the promise of God but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God. He was fully convinced that what God promised he was also able to do.

Romans 4:20-21

Abraham was said to be a man of faith, believing that God was able to do all that He told Abraham He would do! God told him that his wife Sarah would conceive a son at a very old age, and that Abraham’s offspring would bless the entire world!

This was a promise that Sarah laughed at and one that Abraham wasn’t quite sure how was going to be accomplished. But, he didn’t let his ignorance of God’s power stop him from believing it! He heard the Word of the Lord when He said:

“Is anything impossible for the Lord?…”

Genesis 18:14 (partial)

Making the personal connection

We might not know how the promises of God’s Word will become activated in our lives and current situations, but we must nevertheless believe the Lord. His power is limitless and His abilities cannot be comprehended.

So, let’s trust Him and believe that He is able to do far more than we could ever ask or even imagine (see Ephesians 3:20-21). I’m sure there was a temptation for Abraham to waver in his faith, just like we might be tempted to do at times, but he was strengthened in his faith. And that resulted in glory given to God!

We want our lives to bring glory to God too, right? Well, I do find it interesting as I read through this story at how many times it indicates that Abraham bowed down and worshipped the Lord! I imagine there is a correlation between our worship, bowing low before God, and our ability to return glory to God.

A worshipful life is an obedient life. And an obedient life is one that returns glory to God!

So, no matter the circumstances, we must learn to use them as opportunities to show off the limitless abilities of God toward us as we simply trust Him through them while living a worshipful life! And the only real way to do that is to surrender ourselves to the God who is able to display His power in anything we face!

Questions for Reflection

  • Are you quick to waver in your faith when life gets difficult?
  • Have you thought of how your life is, or can, bring glory to God?
  • What do you need to change in order to more fully bring God glory?

Action Steps

Let’s Believe God!

There is so much to say about simply trusting in God’s abilities to do miraculous things as He fulfills His promises toward us. No, we may not understand how, but we can still believe!

Abraham was “fully convinced” that God was able to fulfill His promises, and I think we should live “fully convinced” as well.

Return Glory to God

The best way to return glory to God is to live a faithful life according to how God wants us to live! Faith in God demands obedience to His will and ways.

So, let’s rid our lives of any darkness and let the light of Christ dwell in us each day! The Scriptures says that Abraham’s faith was accredited to him as righteousness, so his faith resulted in righteousness, both principally and practically.

So, when we do as our song today says and allow God to “take (our) life and let it be His”, that is when we return the most glory to God! Allowing His brightness, His radiance, His characteristics to have weight in our decision making, and His will to rule us is glorifying our God forever!

Prayer

God of Glory, I praise You for being so radiant and powerful in all Your ways! I trust You Lord and seek to bring You glory as I act upon that faith! My God, I am fully convinced, as Abraham was, that You will fulfill every one of Your promises toward me as described in Your Word. Increase my faith, Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.
