Living Out the Lord’s Prayer – Worship Devotional

Song of the Day

“As It Is In Heaven” by Matt Maher

Devotional thought

I have heard it said that the Scripture we call the “Lord’s Prayer” is actually the Disciple’s prayer, and I would tend to agree with that. Jesus was instructing His followers, the Disciples, how to pray when He gave them this wonderful model of prayer! But, I think it is much more than just a model for prayer, it is a model for living as well!

As followers of Jesus, we should be acknowledging our Father (relational connection) in Heaven (our true citizenship) as Holy (totally separate from anything else in our life), looking for opportunities to introduce His Kingdom (our primary agenda) into our life by following His will for us!

We should be seeking Him and trusting our God to provide for us each day, both spiritually and physically! Our daily rhythm should include seeking His forgiveness for the sins we commit, and to extend forgiveness to those who sin against us! This is so important for the follower of Christ to apply to our daily habits.

I believe this next part is absolutely critical, yet so often overlooked in our culture today, seeking protection from the evil one. There is so much temptation around us each day, and the truly passionate disciple of Christ will know that and seek the Lord’s protection from those temptations. The evil one has an agenda of his own, to steal, kill, and destroy, but we have a God who is able to deliver us from that agenda and to cover us with His protecting hand if we will only acknowledge the battle and trust Him with it!

Finally, we need to stay in a posture of praise if we are to apply this model prayer to our daily life! Let’s be the people who acknowledge our God’s dominion, power, and kingdom forever. Let’s sing to Him a new song from our heart that has been transformed by His grace forever! I want to be a living prayer, not just words spoken from a model that Christ gave. How about you?

Prayer

Holy Father, I praise Your matchless name! You are all powerful and Your glory is what I seek. I ask that You give me the strength to live out this prayer that Jesus told us to pray. Help me to have Your kingdom’s agenda on my mind, to accomplish Your purposes and will in my life, and to lead others to follow Your ways! In Jesus’ Name, amen.
