Devotional thought

The chorus of this song begins with a praiseworthy phrase, “Emmanuel, a promise kept…”! I love that phrase, because I love trustworthy people and it affirms my love for my trustworthy God!

God in flesh, Emmanuel, is all the proof we need to be able to fully trust in the God of promises! All the way back in Genesis 3:15, God makes reference to sending a Deliverer from heaven. He was going to crush the head of humanities enemy, Satan. Immediately following man’s fall, God had a plan to redeem us through a Deliverer, and it was Himself!

Fast forward through many prophetic proclamations and many years of waiting, and you will see a Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger in Bethlehem! Really? This is our “Deliverer”, right? Absolutely! This Babe is no ordinary child, this Babe is the longing of our hearts – God Himself!

See, if the careful student of God’s Word matches up all of the prophecies concerning the Christ, and the beginning of all of the Gospels, they will see those prophecies about the Messiah fulfilled in Jesus! All the way from Genesis, Isaiah, and Micah, to the opening genealogies of Mary and Joseph, we see everything pointing to Jesus as the Messiah who was to come and save the world.

Through this Child, all of the earth is blessed! All of humanity is now able to be delivered from the original enemy of our soul, Satan! The promised One has come and we rejoice in His arrival because we know that without it we would be utterly helpless to save ourselves!

We need Emmanuel to be with us, to save us, and to secure our eternity with Him forever! That is what our Messiah, Jesus Christ does! He is the Deliverer, the Promise kept, and He fulfillment of God’s deliverance plan! Hallelujah.

Prayer

Oh God, I love You and thank You for sending me Emmanuel, the Deliverer from Heaven, to save me and the rest of humanity from the power of Satan and sin! I ask that You remind me each day that You are with me, so I can walk this life with confidence and reject all evil in my life! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
