What are the Implications of a Holy Spirit Invitation? Worship Devotional

Song of the Day

“Holy Spirit” by Brian and Katie Torwalt

Devotional thought

We sing the song, and most of us genuinely mean what we say when we sing, “Holy Spirit, You are welcome here.”. But, I wonder if we understand the implications of what truly will happen when Holy Spirit accepts that invitation?

I have thought about this numerous times, and asked myself if I am ready for God to answer that prayer. See, in the Scriptural and historical accounts of the Holy Spirit’s intervention into certain events we see people cut to the heart, Priests unable to minister, people speaking in unknown languages, healings, conviction, worship, dancing, etc.! So, to pray for the Holy Spirit to come and be a part of our service, or our life for that matter, will require an openness to changing up business as usual, right?

I agree with the song writer who said, “There is nothing worth more, no thing can compare,…(to) Your presence Lord.”. And I know it is truly the desire of my heart for God, the Holy Spirit, to have His way in me. I genuinely do want to be more aware of His presence and power in my life!

But, what I have noticed is a resistance when the conviction does come, when the schedule does get interrupted, when humility is a must, when forgiveness and kindness must be extended, etc., at His acceptance of that invitation!

I think we need to take very seriously the words we are singing when we invite Holy Spirit to come and have His way among us individually and corporately! Do we believe that He will show up? And if He does intervene, are we flexible enough to allow Him to interrupt the plans we have in place?

A quick study of previous Revivals will inform us that when God the Holy Spirit does break into our lives, and services, life slows way down and we are faced with a “disruption” of sorts that nobody knows what to do with! It is generally unprecedented, meaning He works in mysterious ways that cannot be predicted or formulated, but always leads to the same result – people changed forever through extreme conviction that leads to transformative reverence!

So, are you ready to sing this song and have God answer your invitation? Are you prepared to allow the Holy Spirit full, unrestricted, access into your life that will force you to examine yourself before the Holy God who knows you inside and out? Will you obey what the presence of God demands of you?

Just some things to consider as you sing this wonderful song!

Prayer

Father God, I do praise You for giving the gift of Holy Sprit to me! I do desire to be aware of Your presence and power in my life. I invite You now to have full access into all of me, and for Your presence to transform my life. I worship You and want to experience the power of Your presence in my life forever! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
