How can Being Broken Help Me? Worship Devotional

Gracefully Broken is a great song to remind us of how our weakness can position us to receive God’s power. When in our weakness we call out to God‘s intervention then we will see the mighty hand of God coming in and delivering us from our trials and circumstances. All to Jesus we surrender, and when we do we align ourselves with His redeeming power. And there is no greater force in all of the universe than that!

Lunch Devo: 2 Samuel 7:22

There are times in our life that we will come upon a situation that seems insurmountable to us, like we have no idea how we will ever be able to get through it. Each day we need wisdom, direction, healing, etc., and if it is left to us we will be utterly helpless to get … Read more

Lunch Devo: Ps 145:18-19

Yesterday we discussed that God is near to all from Acts 17:27, and in today’s verses we see that reminder again! Actually, it is one of the most recited reminders all throughout the Bible – God is with us, He is near to us, He is available when we call out to Him! What a … Read more

Lunch Devo: Philippians 2:3-4

Lunch Devo: Today’s encouragement is to live unselfishly by being considerate of others. The command is to do nothing from selfish ambition, and to consider others more significant than ourselves! I know that this is a very tall order, right? How much of our lives are given to caring for our needs; to eat right, … Read more

Is the Word of Christ Dwelling in You?

This is a reference to Christ’s teachings, the Gospel message, and/or the Bible as a whole. “Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly”, I believe this to be a call to allow the Word of God to be the most evident influence in the dish of your life! When we do allow this to influence everything about us, we will inevitably be a much more “tasty” treat for others to be around. The smell and taste of your life will begin to show forth fruits such as the ingredients that we have been discussing for the past several posts, such as; a heart of mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiving, etc. (I have been using a clothing analogy in previous points, but think of all of those virtues as ingredients to the dish of your life). This kind of a life is certainly a sweet smelling offering to the Lord and to the people around us!

What Do You Allow to Control Your Heart?

Colossians 3:15 (NET)“Let the peace of Christ be in control in your heart (for you were in fact called as one body to this peace), and be thankful.” Such a short and sweet verse holding in it a profound statement! Let the peace of Christ be in control of your heart. As we have been … Read more

Love Ties Everything Together in Your Spiritual Wardrobe.

Have you ever said that you agape someone? I am guessing not. But have you ever had that type of love where you would do anything for them and literally lay yourself down for them? I know that I have an agape love for my wife and children, my mom and dad, my brothers and sisters, and others that are very close to me. I want to be sacrificial and unconditionally loving to all of those people in my life, and I make an effort to do so. The Bible tells me to have that love for everyone! That is a different standard altogether. I don’t want to love some people. I don’t want to like some people. But, God’s ways are higher than my ways, so I must make the choice to love them regardless of how I feel because love (agape love) goes beyond feelings.

What does God want Me to Clothe Myself With?

It is important to note that when the Bible tells us to clothe ourselves with something, it is because we do not already have it on! We are not naturally clothed with humility or kindness, mercy or gentleness, or patience. Instead, we must daily choose to put these characteristics “on” every morning by calling upon the Holy Spirit in recognition of the reality that without Him we will not be walking in these attributes! We must not try to “dress ourselves” with articles of our own choosing (e.g. judgement, rudeness, pride, bitterness, selfishness, etc.), but we must choose to put on the articles God has instructed us to wear.
